History Of Been There, Done That

Been There, Done That was founded and organized by Joel Whiteside because of a need for mentorship and guidance for individuals who are re-entering society in Cowlitz County after incarceration. Throughout his late teens and early adulthood Joel struggled to make good decisions, and consequently his life had spiraled out of control. One day during a moment of clarity he made a decision that it was time make some changes, and also do whatever he could to help others. Joel became very involved in the recovery community in Cowlitz County, and his passion to help others exploded. In order to fulfill his dream of starting a non-profit organization Joel enrolled at Warner Pacific College in Portland, and in December of 2014 he graduated with a 4.0 and a Associates of Arts Degree in Organizational Dynamics. He continued on with his education and in September of 2016 graduated with his Bachelors of Science degree in Human Development. Joel is pursuing his Masters of Science Degree in Professional Counseling at Grand Canyon University in Arizona.

With the unconditional support of his family, friends, and one special mentor his dream became a reality in the fall of 2013. He assembled a Board of Directors of individuals who have a passion for helping others and giving back to the community. The members of the board have a wide variety of experience in different areas that will be beneficial to fulfill the purpose of Been There, Done That.

Since BTDT's formation in 2013 the organization has positively impacted over 150 individuals during their transition process back into the community, and provided insight and support to countless family members who are struggling while their loved ones are incarcerated.
